PDO Thread Lift
What is a PDO/COG thread lift?
A highly popular treatment here at G + T aesthetics, a PDO thread lift – also known as a cog thread lift – can help to stimulate long-term collagen production in the skin, as well as creating a lifting and tightening effect that results in a sculpted appearance and smoother skin, traditionally achieved only by surgery. Overall, you can expect transformative and long-term improvements to the firmness and texture of your skin.
Find out moreCog threads are essentially barbed mono threads. The barbs are moulded as part of the thread and purposed as a support structure to effectively lift sagging tissues. In the case of cog threads, collagen formation will occur around both the threads and barbs; making it most effective for significant lifting. The thread dissolves over time leaving your natural fibroblasts, elastin, and collagen behind, helping to support the skin and prolong results long after the thread has dissolved – result can last up to 24-months. Cog treatments may be carried out with PDO, PCL, or PLLA threads.
What are PDO mono threads?
Mono threads are smooth threads without barbs, they are usually placed into the skin in a mesh-like fashion for tightening effects by improving and stimulating collagen formation around the thread.
Mono threads are often used on the body and face to deliver results. Although effective in the stimulation of collagen production and synthesis, mono threads are only effective for tightening the skin – not lifting. Mono thread treatments may be carried out with PDO, PCL, or PLLA type threads.

Questions about your treatment
A.
During your consultation, we will explore the suitability and advantages of each thread structure (and composition) to address your concerns, from mild to advanced signs of ageing. There are several types of cogs and threads, each with different benefits and longevity. At G&T Aesthetics, we offer:
- Mono threads, smooth threads without barbs, used to tighten and hydrate*
- Screw or tornado threads, intertwined to create a ‘filler’ or tissue volumising effect while tightening and hydrating the skin*
- Cog threads, barbed threads used to lift excess or sagging skin*
- *Treatment available with PDO, PCL, or PLLA threads options.
- Polydioxanone (PDO) threads, which target fine wrinkles and pores, create a skin remodelling and rejuvenating effect (lasting between 6 to 9 months)
- Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) threads, attract water to the treatment area offering enhanced hydration alongside a potent collagen inducing effect. PLLA threads are typically used as an alternative to dermal fillers for this reason (lasting between 14 to 18 months)
- Polycaprolactone (PCL) threads, which have a stronger structure to maximise effects, results, and longevity (lasting up to 24-months)

Treatment is carried out under a local anaesthetic to ensure very minimal discomfort during treatment, most of our patients feel nothing at all during treatment. Please read our detailed pre and post-treatment guide for more information.

Full treatment time depends largely on the area (or number of areas) being treated, we estimate approximately 45 mins per treatment area.
A.
It varies greatly, depending on which treatment you choose and what concern you’re targeting. For example, one of our most advanced treatments, PCL threads, can stimulate collagen production for up to 24 months following treatment, while our PLLA threads may last up to 18 months while delivering unparalleled hydration to treated areas, and PDO thread lifts may last up to 9 months. This is the reason we stress the importance of a consultation at Stamford aesthetics, so we can determine which treatment is best for you.
A.
Again, this depends. Our PLLA threads offer exceptional results with improved hydration of the skin and almost no inflammatory reaction to the surrounding tissues, while our PCL threads offer the greatest longevity with results.
