Bruxism Treatment
What Is Bruxism Treatment?
Bruxism is the medical name for grinding of the teeth. In many people who have this condition, it’s a completely involuntary movement and may even happen while the person is asleep. Over time, bruxism can lead to a whole host of concerns, including jaw pain and headaches, gum sensitivity, tooth wear, and enlarged masseter muscles.
Find out moreWe treat bruxism with injections of Botulinum toxin A (Botox) into the masseter muscles, which are responsible for the chewing action in your jaw. Treatment can also be injected into the frontalis and temporalis muscles. Injections of Botox can help to reduce signals between the nerves and muscles, weakening the grinding movement to prevent pain and tooth wear.
Injections of Botox can be placed into areas around the jaw to reduce tension and grinding. It can also help to reduce associated pain including headaches and jaw pain. Here are some of the areas and concerns we can help to treat through Botox.

Questions about your treatment

Your injections will begin to work within a matter of days, but it can take up to 2 weeks for them to take full effect. You can then expect your results to last between 3-6 months. To prolong your results, you’ll need repeat treatments, as the effects do wear off over time. Side-effects and downtime with Botox injections are minimal.

Over time, your symptoms can worsen, including tooth wear and damage; headaches and jaw pain; and tension in the jaw. Bruxism is unlikely to improve on its own, whereas our treatment is clinically proven to help reduce the habit, which could reduce your chances of these symptoms developing or worsening.
